A more detailed post-ride report from Bewl Water.

Annie, Wobbles (Neale) and I gathered for a planned recce of Bewl Water as a possible venue to expand our range of off-Cyclopark sessions.

It’s 13 miles around the lake and is far from any definition of flat.
It does have marked cycle, walking and riding routes and the two routes are marked for ability.

The route is hilly from the start (clockwise around the dam) and the surface is very mixed.
Some parts of the route are old farm tracks and comfortable to ride, but we suspect not enjoyable for any wheelchair or Ice Trike or similar users. Visitors must also use the highway at times and whilst we didn’t feel unsafe, an approaching car whilst tackling a hill won’t be too enjoyable.

We all managed the circuit, 3.5 hours for 24km showing how tiring it can be.

We’ll let the pictures tell the story, but we don’t believe that Bewl Water works as an inclusive destination for our members, but would suit for those knowing it will be hard work and can walk as required through gates, around obstacles and up/down the steps on the route.

We’ll continue to look for additional venues and welcome ideas.
